He is 83, ® told the group, and always glad (Continued on Page Two) Embossing Machine In Finishing Department An embossing machine has been operating in the Caromount Finishing Department during the past several weeks. This process is applied to quality 103UC and it produces an entirely different appearance of this cloth. It has attracted much favorable com ment from the employees. The embossing is accomplished by running the cloth between two (Continued on Page Two) Personnel Staff Gives Aid To Employees The staff of the Personnel Of- ffce reminds Caromount and Wilson employees that its office is available to them for help and services needed. R. Quillen Ward, the Person nel Director, is at the Wilson Di vision on Wednesday df each week. At any other time Wilson employees may relay messages and requests for help to their re spective foremen who in turn will contact him at the Caromount Di vision. Caromount employees are reminded to see the Personnel Director from 1:00—3:00 P. M. Ask your foreman to call Mr. Ward when it is necessary to see him at some other time. When employees find it neces sary to request loans, it is advis able to make such requests at least one day prior to the time of needing the money. This serv ice is rendered as an accommoda tion for employees and must not be abused. When applying for a loan, employees should see the Personnel Director and explain the need for the loan and return for an approval of the -loan on the following day. Requests for guarantee of pay ment by the company on hospital bills for dependents are also ac cepted in the Personnel Office. The Park View Hospital and TKe (Continued on Page Two) Awards To Be Made In Safety Slogan Contest Are there any poets in the house? Well, here is a good chance to express your poetic in clinations and if they are good enough, you can get some cash for them also. All you have to do is sit down and in legible handwriting, write a slogan or rhyme on safety and submit it by August 26 to the Safety Director, Clayton Hedge peth. The slogan or rhyme consider ed best by an impartial and qualified committee will win a cash award of $5.00 and your slogan or ditty will be used in our safety program. In addition to the first prize of $5.00, there a will also be cash awards of $3.00 for second best, and $2.00 for third best. So sit right down now and start composing that slogan or rhyme and if you would like an example, here goes: Slogan: Safe working habits will protect you. Rhyme: I never get hurt,” said careless Jim, As he walked along looking at a blond so trim, And so Jim, the steps he did not see. And now he’s in the hospital with a busted knee.” Corny, yes—so all of you chip in and give us some better ones. Great Interest Shown In Outing As As Employees Register for Contest At 1:00 p. m. on Saturday, August 10, the outing and picnic for employees and their immed iate families will get under way at the municipal swimming pool in Sunset Riverside Park at Rocky Mount with a water show first on the schedule of events. The water show will consist of a demonstration of synchronized swimming by six girls who have been trained to swim in rhythm with music. There will be ex pert diving and also clown diving as a part of this show. The bathing beauty contest will follow the water show. There have been approximately fifteen entries in this contest already. Any person who wishes to enter this contest should contact Mrs. Mattie Barnhill of the Finishing Department, Mrs. Marie Strick land of the Caromount Weaving Department, Miss Aileen Womble in the Office, or Mrs. Clarice Jones of the Wilson Division. A valuable prize will be given to the beauty queen selected by com petent judges from outside the mill. The swimming pool will be (Continued on Page Four) Softball Field Ready The softball field located be yond the parking lot in front of the Gatehouse has been com pleted. A schedule of games for the remainder of the season will be prepared for various depart mental teams. Each employee who is interest ed in playing softball for his department should contact his foreman immediately and give him the position preferred. Men and women may participate in the softball games if enough teams are organized for both. It is suggested that the follow ing teams be organized: three from the Weaving Department, one from the Engineering De partment, and two from the vari ous departments in the Dyeing and Finishing Plant. Of course, the Barnhill Braves have already organized their team from the Engineering Department and many employees from other de partments are already playing in the City Softball League.
